Sisters, Oregon
High 95 Low 64
Today is expected to be very warm. Because of that and the
fact that the last two nights have been so warm boondocking at the Sisters
Creekside RV Park, we decided to move this morning………..almost 100 yards to a
site that someone left yesterday that had full hook-ups. So far we have been a
lot more comfortable than the last two days. We did run our generator so we
could have air conditioning, but it wasn’t the same as having full hook-ups.
Yesterday we walked to see the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show,
Which is the largest outdoor quilt show in the world, with what is estimated to
have over 10,000 visitors and in excess of 1300 quilts on display.
This bridge Covers the small steam that separates the RV Park from down-town.
The show began on a sunny day in July 1975 when the local
quilt shop owner hung 12 quilts on the outside of her quilt shop. Other ladies
brought their quilts to add to the display and the show began to grow from that
humble start.

New to the show this year was the quilt show walk kickoff
where businesses that sponsor the event hang quilts in their shop. I talked
about the walk off on the last post. That portion of the show begins a week earlier
than the actual show.
The event has about $200,000 in expenses to produce the
show. Visitors to the show provide a boost to the economy. A recent study found
that attendees spend in excess of $1.7 million during their stay.
When we started our walk, some of the quilts were still
being hung and as the day went on, more and more people could be seen walking,
what we found out after our walk that it was about a five mile walk. By the end
of the day walking in 90+ degrees, we were pretty tired, but it was well worth
our visit. All the shops had quilts hanging on them, even the ones that had
nothing to do with quilting.
This is the local Quilt Store, and of course it had the most quilts. |
One store we walked past had Cinderella's chariot.

Lots and lots of people. |
If you have any interest in quilting, this show in almost a
must see. But if you do come, we stayed in the Creekside RV Park because it was
within walking distance of all the festivities, I would recommend full
hook-ups. Some of the roads through down-town are closed and as a result
Parking is hard to find. This was another reason we stayed in the Park we did. Another plus is free wi-fi, probably the fastest we have seen.
The show is always the second Saturday in July.

Thanks for visiting.
WOW!! Thats crazy! Isn't there just one quilt store? Seems to me when I was there a few years ago I only saw one ... not during the Quilt Show. Last year my friend's friend was featured in the show. She made some amazing quilts.
