Winston, Oregon High 84 Low 57
We drove from Ilwaco, Washington to Winston, Oregon on
Monday. We are staying at our Yuma friend’s, John and Kathy James, place in
Winston. We are parked near his cherry orchard. John has told us to pick what
cherries we want. He also has some peaches, a few of which are ripe and he
invited us to pick some of them.
He has more kinds of cherries than I knew existed. John told
me that he has 25 acres bordering the South Umpqua River. Yesterday we walked
down to the river to see what it is like. We could see that the river must get
a lot higher than it is now.
Where we are is very quiet. We very seldom hear any cars. It
cools off enough at night that we have good sleeping.
Last evening Kathy invited us to dinner and we had some very
good vegetables and chicken breast. I have noticed that for someone that is
semi-retired, John seems to stay busy a lot of the time.
Yesterday we visited the local quilt stores. There are three
in Roseburg and one in nearby Myrtle Creek. We made it to the first three
without buying anything but made up for it at the last one. But when she had
material on sale at $3.50 a yard, who can resist? And besides, can you ever
have too much material?
So far we are enjoying our stay here in inland Oregon and
the weather has been perfect.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July.
Thanks for visiting.
Happy 4th. Cherries sure sound good.
