Pizza Party

Yuma, Arizona      High 96 Low 63

It has been very warm lately.  A lot of the Canadians have left the Park to go back home. We are going to stay about two more weeks (we think).

We had a Pizza Party put on by Tom our resident event volunteer. I don't know how many people he invited, but there were a lot. He has a small pizza cooker that will cook a pizza in about 90 seconds. He supplied the dough to make the pizzas and there were a lot of topping to make our own pizza.

Here is Tom hard at cooking the pizzas.

Some of our friends.

Cindy's got a little too done but it still tasted OK.

He said he could cook about 40 pizzas per hour and asked the people to stagger the time to show up. The pizzas tasted really good and everyone had a good time visiting.

We have been invited to two other dinners/ happy hours this week and Cindy is planning on having Easter dinner for a few of our friends here in the park tomorrow. Since it has been so warm, we might have to hold it inside and also wind is predicted tomorrow which would make it uncomfortable outside.

I caught a lizard on our back fence and was able to get a picture. Before I took the picture he would run along the fence and then stop and it looked like he was doing push-ups and then would repeat the process.

The lizard is a little hard to see, but is about in the middle of both pictures.

We are still staying busy but the quilting group have officially disbanded for the season But I am still playing shuffle board so all is good.

Thanks for visiting.

Shuffle Board Party

Yuma, Arizona      High 88 Low 64

Spring has officially arrived. It has warmed up nicely the past few days.

We had a year end shuffle board party for all the shuffle board players and spouses. We played two games starting at 4:00 in the afternoon and we had more players than usual including several new players.

To make things interesting, the way we played was changed. Instead of being inside the lines, the disc had to be touching a line to count with the lowest score being the one that scored.

I played against one of the beginners and got beat very badly. In fact, I was one of the lowest scorers in the game. At the dinner afterward, I was presented a certificate of compassion and pity. It was all in fun and I still had a good time.

The second game instead of playing against the person at your end, we were partners and tried to help get more points for you team mate. I played with Bryan, who usually a very good player. We were playing against two new players. We went half the game and were getting trounced. Then to again make things more interesting, everyone put a golf ball on their discs. The object was to not have the ball fall off or you lost 10 points for each ball that fell off.

Garth, in black, was the high scorer in the game.

Look at Garth's score.

My partner Bryan and I.

Notice the concentration.

Bryan and I didn't do too badly this time and started to catch up (we were behind 70 points). Then the new player that had told us she had only played two games knocked 4 ball out of the discs. It looked like we had a chance to win the game but in their last frame they outscored us and we lost.

After the games we had a fish fry buffet in the cafe in our Park. The fish was excellent. At the dinner was when the awards for the game were given out.

All in all it was a fun way to spend the afternoon and evening and I think everyone (including the big loosers) had a good time. I knowI did.

  Thanks for visiting.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Yuma, Arizona                      High 73 Low 50

The weather has been great. Cool enough at night for sleeping and warm enough in the day-time to not need jackets.

Every month we have an owners meeting and that same night a pot luck dinner which is dessert, salad, and soup. There is always enough food for everyone and the desserts are excellent.

After the dinner there is always a band, which is made up from people in our Park, along with singers. Lot of the group dance to the music and we always have fun listening to the music.

Last Thursday one of the streets in our Park was blocked off for chairs and we were entertained with a Jam Session and singing. Most of the band are the same people we heard earlier in the week at the dinner. Again there were lots of people to hear the music.

Then last night we were again invited to a happy hour/ karaoke session at one of our neighbors. There was lots of good food and some very good singers. It started a little late and a little wind came up and we were getting kind of cold before we went home. I'm afraid we have turned into Arizonians.

I used to laugh at one of our neighbors in Riverton. They were from Phoenix and when it got below 70 degrees they said they felt cold. Now when it gets below 70, we are cold. I guess it doesn't take too long to get used to the heat.

Penny has been going to the small dog park most afternoons and there aren't near as many dogs as there were earlier in the year. I think the most that were there was 26. Now there are only about 10 most days.

I am still playing shuffle board 3 times a week and Cindy is still doing the quilt group which I help her with on Wednesday afternoons.

They have had lots of the four letter word (snow) back in Riverton and Salt Lake City and we are not in any hurry to get home.

Thanks for visiting.

This and That

Yuma, Arizona          High 85 Low 56

It has been a lot warmer for the last while, more like what we expect March in Yuma to be like.

Cindy got a bad cold almost two weeks ago and I have had it for a week (of course the best way to get rid of a cold is to give it to someone else). We are both almost over it and are feeling a lot better. I've always heard that if you get a cold and do everything you should and can for it, it will only last a week, while if you don't do much for it, it will last 7 days.

With all that said, the Fabric Store at the Arizona Market had a customer appreciation sale last Friday. If you got there before 9 AM they gave an extra 10% off the sale price. In addition they had us put our names in for a drawing to win charm packages. We held it down and only bought 80 something yards (can you ever have too much fabric). Maybe it was better that Cindy didn't feel well or we might have really got carried away buying fabric. lol

Penny hasn't been able to go to Yappy Hour at the small Dog Park since last Friday because I haven't felt well enough and didn't have anyone I wanted to give my cold to. So as you can see from this picture, she has been pretty much a lap dog for the last week.

Penny gets to go see her doggie friends this afternoon since I am feeling a lot better.

We got a call from the Quilt Store that Cindy's name had been drawn to win one of the prizes, so we went in today to pick it up and found both our names on the list of winners. The packs weren't anything we would have bought, but Cindy says she will make use of them in one of her scrappy quilts.

The store had several quilts on display and Cindy's daughter, Stephanie, would have like the one I took a picture of except they like wolves instead of foxes.

Cindy's sister took their Mom out of rehab and got her admitted to the hospital because of all the water build up. They told her there was nothing wrong, but it is probably good that Linda didn't listen to them and took her to the hospital. She called yesterday and told us that she should be able to go back to the other rehab place soon and is doing a lot better.
