It Finally Cooled Off

Riverton, Utah    High 93 Low 67

The weather finally got down to more normal temperatures for this time of year, instead of the 10 degrees over normal we had earlier in the week. I can only hope it lasts.

I quilted more quilts, but I had 3 in a row with Minky backs. Now I know for sure why machine quilters hate Minky. I was quilting along and all of a sudden my machine started to make a racket, broke the needle, and stopped. Upon inspection, the bobbin case, which has two moving parts, was now frozen up. I had to take the case out and take it apart, which I had been advised by the dealer, not to do unless absolutely necessary because of a timing problem. I found large pieces of the minky blocking the movement of the two parts.

After watching a video about timing the bobbin head to the needle, I had to find a tool I didn't know I had, to time the mechanism. After I got everything back together, the machine would not stitch. I called the dealer here, and tried everything they suggested, but it still would not run. So I had to call Gammill Tech support and make an appointment to have someone call me back. It was only a two hour wait, and the lady called exactly on time. After listening to what had happened, she asked if I had reset any of the tiny breakers on the controller. I didn't even know they existed, but one was sticking out. After pushing it in, everything worked. It only took the tech about two minutes to fix my machine. I had been quoted from four to six weeks for the company to send out someone to do the repairs, and I was able to do the repairs myself and it only took me a day. It was a lot of frustration, but I got it working.

Here are pictures of the quilts that caused the problem.

And finally, here is the picnic quilt, I quilted after getting my machine working.

We Had The Great Grandkids Over

Riverton, Utah             High 90 Low 64

The weather finally got cooler. It has been a welcome change. We even got a little rain, while everyone around us got flooded. There was even a tornado warning west of us.

Cindy wanted to help out our grand-daughter, so she invited the two great grand sons over night. Of course they wanted to go swimming. They played in the water for quite awhile.

Then we watched movies until it was time for them to go to bed. after we were in bed the younger one came to us and asked if they could go home. We told him in the morning. I guess he is not used to being away from his mother.

We have been busy quilting and I even got one finished.

Cindy has also been very busy bottling tomatoes. She never stops!

It Turned Out To Be A Bad Air Week

Riverton, Utah       High 94 Low 77

The weather finally had cooled off a little from a high yesterday of 103 to 94 today. It is still hot, but mid- nineties is a little relief.

We did get a little bit of rain today and poor little Penny heard the thunder and got scared.

We have had smoke in the air for the last week. Some days we couldn't see any of the mountains surrounding Salt Lake Valley. There were heath advisories every day. The weather guessers say all the smoke is coming in from Spokane and Northern Idaho, even though a lot of Utah is still on fire. One of the fires had grown to over 100,000 acres with very little containment, and there have been several new fires this past week.

We were planning on having the great grand kids come over, but our grand-daughter called and said she was having complications in her pregnancy, so wouldn't be able to make it. I was planning on getting pictures this time, so sorry, there won't be any pictures.

Cindy has had  a good crop of tomatoes and has been bottling a lot of them.

For the first time since we've had the quilt machine, I am all caught up with Cindy's quilts. She does have a lot in process though, so the rest will be short. I did have one of my customers bring over two quilts, so I will have something to do.

Sorry for the short post.

Bad Air Day

Riverton, Utah      High 101 Low 75

It is still very hot and the weather guessers are predicting more of the same. What happened to August cooling down?

Today it is so smoky from all the fires that we can only barely see the mountains to the east. The news showed a couple of new fires caused by lightning. They still don't have all the older fires in the state put completely out. At least we don't have any fires in our area.

Cindy's garden is going crazy and the plants are loving the heat. I got the netting on our grapes, and hopefully we won't have birds feasting on the grapes.

We are getting Tomatoes and some squash, with lots more growing. Cindy says there are two melons growing, but I didn't get pictures of them.

The Zucchini blossom is huge. The plants are going everywhere and you have to watch where you walk because they are all over the sidewalks.

I had made a cage out of fencing for the beans to grow on, and it got so heavy, that the wind knocked it over. I had to add some pipes to help hold it up to hold all the plants.

And I finished another Christmas quilt. It is the same log cabin quilt Cindy has made before, but this time we quilted it in a Christmas bell pattern.
