Happy Mothers Day

Riverton, Utah      High 82 Low 66

Happy Mothers Day everyone.

It has been very warm for the time of year. The weather guessers say we are about two week early for this high of temperatures. Cindy normally doesn't plant until Mothers Day and already has most of her garden planted.

We did get our planter boxes filled, about 20 yards of fill later. We were both wore out by the time we finished.

We went to a cinco de mayo party for the neighborhood. There were about 50 people invited. It was all pot-luck with the exception of the taco's.

The main course was taco's and chips and so on to go with it. The desserts were very good. It was the kind of party that if you left hungry, it was your own fault.

Yesterday there was a small car show in our neighborhood. Cindy said she really liked the Corvette convertible the best. I don't know why she didn't take a picture of it. I liked the 58 Chev convertible.

Easter Party and Planter Boxes

Riverton, Utah     High 71 Low 54

It has been unusually warm here lately. Yesterday was predicted to break a record by the weather guessers, but it didn't quite make it. The next two day rain is predicted, but we shall see. It is still better than the hot weather that is predicted in Yuma, 106 by next Friday.

I have been lax on posting since we have been back to Utah, but my excuse is that we have been busy.

For Easter we went to Cindy's daughter's for Easter dinner and the great grand-kids (and their Parents) has an Easter egg hunt. It was nice to see everyone.

Since Easter, we decided to get Raised bed Planter boxes. I ordered some from a Company in California that advertised 3 to 5 day delivery, but after about two week, I called to see what the delay was, and was informed that the wouldn't be shipped until about May 21, so I cancelled that order and ordered some from Amazon. Amazon had them to me in three days.

Then the work began. First I had to assemble all the planters. Then Cindy and I got some gravel to put in the bottom of the boxes. This took us two day to get the amount of gravel we wanted. This wore both of us out, me shoveling and Cindy hauling buckets of stone and dumping it into the boxes.

The next picture shows the gravel, with some sticks on top of the gravel.

The next step was to get two truck loads of compost, which we put on top of the rock. We didn't get any pictures of that process.

Lastly, We got a good top soil mix to fill the boxes, which too two more truck loads. The compost and soil was easier to put in the boxes because it didn't weigh as much, and we could dig into it with a shovel, and third, we could haul it in the wheel barrel instead of bucket loads. I filled the wheel barrel and wheeled
it into place. Then Cindy shoveled the compost and dirt into the boxes. This took us a little more than a day per load and we were wore out by the end of the day.

We decided to go with drip type sprinklers in the boxes, which isn't finished yet, but Cindy planted some  tomatoes in one of the boxes, which she will water by hand until I get the parts, again from Amazon.

This is the box Cindy planted with tomatoes. The little white spot at each end of the box is where I raised the existing sprinklers up with a cap on it. This is where the drip distributor goes.

The next picture show the topsoil in our truck.

We decide on 24 inch high boxes instead of 17 inch ones because we thought it would be easier for Cindy to keep up, except it took way more dirt to fill them.

Then Saturday we went to a yard sale that advertised a raised planter box. It was only a foot high, but I got it for less than half price, so now we have one more box to fill.

Thanks for visiting.

What Is All This White Stuff

Riverton, Utah       High 62 Low 39

We Made it back to Utah. The weather went from 100 degrees to almost freezing. We had some frost on our lawn one morning. then we woke up to find about 2 inches of the four letter word (snow) on everything. By noon it was all gone.

I'm not sure which is worse, the cold or too hot.

We have been busy, especially Cindy, since we've been back. Even though it is too cold to plant her garden, there is a lot of work to get it ready. The first two days we were here, we got three garbage cans full of leaves. We plan on putting in raised planter boxes, hopefully to make it easier to take care of the garden. We haven't got the boxes yet, but they are on order and have got lots of potting soil to mix with good top soil when they get here.

I hope everyone has a Happy Easter.

Knee Feels Good So Far

Yuma, Arizona        High 86 Low 58

The weather here has been windy almost every day, with hot weather predicated by the weather guessers. It is supposed to get to 100 by Thursday, so we are planning to go back to the frozen North on Wednesday. So far that looks like our best travel day.

I told about my knee issues on my last post, so I had heard of a procedure from people here in our Park, which is injections, in Los Algodones. I made an appointment for last Tuesday morning. There are two procedures the Doctor does, one uses your blood platelets and reinjects them with a solution, into where ever the pain is, and the other uses glucose with some other meds, which are injected into painful sites. We chose the later, partly because of cost, and the Doctor thought I would be okay with just the meds.

The examination is he presses on your knee and surrounding areas and he asks if it hurts. If it does he injects the solution. I think I counted about 75 shots before he was finished. Then your are sent to a physical therapist, where she treats you with heat and ultra-sound.

After it was done, my leg felt a lot better, so well that I decided to drive to San Luis to see our Mexican Dentist to get a broken tooth taken care of. It required a new crown, which was ready the next day.

So far, I haven't had any pain, but time will tell. The procedure and therapy cost $610.00, which seemed a little high for Mexico. but the other people I have talked to, said it lasts a long time.

More Dinners

Yuma, Arizona    High 83 Low 59

Still nice weather.

We had two dinners to go to. One was put on by the Park, and one was for the small dog Park group.

We usually have about twenty people at the dog Park every afternoon, and Penny will start bothering me to go about an hour too early. I have talked to other dog owners and they tell me their dogs do the same thing. They sure like to see all their friends.

We were going to have this dinner outside, but it was too hot.

Then next pictures are the dinner put on by the Park for all the volunteer helpers.

This picture is the group at the small dog park.

And of course Penny wanting to go to the dog park.

I usually play shuffle board 3 time per week. We play with bowling pins one time per week. This week they added a golf ball on one of each players discs. The object is if you knock the pin over or the ball out of the disc, you get 10 points deducted. but if the golf ball is counting, you double your score for that spot. It really changes the way you can play the game. We play teams and we not only won, but had the highest score I have seen, since I've been playing.

Last March, I did something to my knee, and it has been hurting me since. I did go to the Doctor and got a shot in the knee, which helped for about a week. The shot cost the insurance and my co-pay $3500. Since it didn't last, I haven't done any more, but I have hear from some people in the Park about a treatment they got in Mexico, that has really helped them, so Tuesday, I am going to try it. The next picture is about how I feel walking now.

I'll let you know how the procedure goes.

Italian Dinner

Yuma, Arizona      High 83 Low 53

At least it cooled off a little after hitting almost 100 early in the week. We have got some wind, but not as bad as sometimes.

The Park had an Italian Dinner pitch-in. Several groups were together and each group pitched in for their own table. We had a group of 8, while our neighbor was with 28.

This was our group and our table decorations below.

The following table won first place for decorations.

Again, the next picture is our table.

One of the local charities puts on a yard sale twice a year. We went to it and the next picture is all the people in line, waiting to go in.

Last summer,  our Palm trees got distressed and I think it was because the Park irrigation system cut back on the water too much, and so I decided to put my own sprinklers to the trees. There is a conduit going under our front patio and I found a root in the pipe. When I measure it, it was 20 feet long. that is what I'm holding in the next picture. It wasn't very big in diameter, but if it got bigger, it could cause a lot of damage.
