Nice Funeral

Riverton, Utah         High 91 Low 58

Summer got here at last.

Today was my brother Wes's funeral. His four kids were there along with all my siblings with the exception of Kathy, who just went home from the hospital. Two of my kids were also there, Don from Boise and Sabrina from Sand Point.

Just a note, I am the oldest of 12 Children. I had one sister die about 20 years ago and now Wes, who was second.

The funeral was a graveside service. We only had 3 speakers. It was a short and sweet service.

My sister-in-law seemed to be handling it ok.

After the service about 20 of us went to a Chinese restaurant. The food was very good.

Cindy's sister Linda called today and wanted to know if we wanted to take an RV trip to the Redwoods in California. After discussing it we decided we both would like to get away for a while and feel like a trip to Northern California wouldn't be too far away if something changes with Kathy.

I'm afraid I have been looking forward to going somewhere.

Wednesday we went to Payson, Utah to pick cherries and we still have some on our tree that aren't quite ripe. The birds are still feasting on them and don't seem to care whether they are ripe or not.

We are going to have a large apricot crop and we need to be here probably the first part of August for them.

I still have been busy quilting Cindy's quilts and started another one this afternoon.

Thanks for visiting.

More News

Riverton, Utah        High 88 Low 58

My younger brother, Wes, passed away Monday morning at about 2:00 AM. The graveside service is scheduled for next Friday morning. He was about 1 1/2 years younger than me. We grew up together and did everything together when we were kids. I will miss him but I guess he is better off now with the paralysis he has had for the last 7 years.

I'm afraid all of this has reminded me of my mortality.

I'm sure my sister-in- law is having a hard time right now but at least her children are all going to be here to help.

Thanks for visiting.

Update

Riverton, Utah                 High 75 Low 52

Cindy and I have kept busy working in the garden. We decided to put down weed barrier and then cover it with rocks around our apple trees. We have the most cherries we have ever had on our cherry tree. I don't know why, but usually the birds have them stripped by now and all we get are pits hanging on the tree, while this year the cherries are almost ripe. I have watched some birds feasting on the cherries but not as many birds as usual. Maybe we will get some this year.

We are still going to a u-pick cherry orchard next week and hopefully we get some of our own.

On a more somber note my sister, Kathy, is still in the hospital and doesn't seem to be getting any better. Then this morning we got a text saying that my brother, Wes, is in the intensive care unit at the hospital and probably won't last the day. He is my next younger brother. Seven years ago he had a stroke which left him paralyzed on the left side. He hasn't been well enough for me to go see him since we have been home (in Utah). They found out he has prostate cancer that spread to his kidneys causing them to shut down. We went to the hospital to see him today and he isn't doing well at all. My sister-in-law is not doing well either but that's to be expected.

Thanks for visiting.

Lots Going On

Riverton, Utah        High 72 Low 63

We have had a few nice mornings. It has rained either at night or late afternoon since we have been back to Utah. It really is getting tiresome. The rain fall ended up being the second wettest spring at the Salt Lake Airport for the almost 150 years they have been keeping track. South of us (Utah County) they are preparing for floods as soon as the snow melts, which usually is gone by now.
There is a lot of snow still in the mountains with more added with each storm we get.

In the nicer mornings we have tried to get the garden work done. We finally got the parts Cindy is not planting covered with the weed barrier.

Another morning I got a window awning installed with the help of Skyler, who happened to be out of school that day. Cindy wanted the awning to keep the afternoon sun out of her office. What we did should help.

Penny was looking pretty shaggy but we hesitated on getting her hair cut because it has been so cold, but I finally made an appointment and had her hair cut. She has been extra clingy since because she is cold but it is supposed to warm up (we hope).

Little Miss Shaggy.

I have a sister, Kathy, that has been in the hospital with leukemia and fungal pneumonia for the past 4 months.  I went to a meeting with her and her doctors Friday. The prognosis is not very good. They only gave her a 2% chance of recovery and for this and a few other reasons we are staying home for now and may travel to Monticello to see Stephanie's home in the middle of nowhere. We will stay close until we find out how Kathy is doing.

Thanks for visiting.
