Trying to Schedule Itinerary

Not much happening weather wise. Still cold and hazy.

We spent some time trying to get a schedule for Arizona the next two months. We would like to use our Coast to Coast as much as possible. So far we have decided on Lake Havasu City from about February 10th to 16th (During Winter Blast).

We plan on being in Quartzsite from the 13th through the 26th of January boondocking, either with the Boomers or the Montana Owners, except I have not been able to get any co-ordinates for the MOC group.  Sorry Sandi, but I don't seem to be able to find the Club web-site, only the discussion forum.

We haven't decided where to stay on the way to Quartzsite, but probably either St. George or the Casino in Mesquite. From there we can stay at Bullhead City.

We would like to go to Algadones after Quartzite for dental cleaning and meds. There is a Coast to Coast resort in Yuma, but it looks like I waited too long to book the stay. Tonight there were only 3 days available when we want to be there, which isn't a big thing, because we could always stay at the Casino by Algodones.

After Havasu we want to go to the Mesa area and spend some time there.

We need to be home to do taxes by the end of March, so we have about a month open. At this time, I'm open to suggestions, but we wouldn't want to go too far, as we do need to be back. I haven't seen much of New Mexico, so that is a possibility. Again, any suggestions would be welcome.

After taxes, we will probably head southeast and have no set course. We do want to be in New England and possibly Eastern Canada in the summer. Lobster in Maine sounds mighty appetizing.

I know it's a hard life, but somebody has to do it. LOL

Christmas Party and Basketball

Salt Lake has been really hazy the last few days, and the prediction is for it to stay around for the next week. We are a little higher than Salt Lake, so we got to see some sunshine this afternoon, which warmed things up a little for us. We actually got above freezing for a while.

This morning we went to a Christmas party complete with a nice breakfast. The kids got to make a mouse with felt and a candy cane.

Devon was kind of shy around Santa.

We had a Christmas program put on by the neighborhood kids. They sang us several Christmas carols.

Then all the small kids got to sit on Santa's lap to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

This afternoon we went to Devon's basketball game at the school. They all played hard, and Devon made two baskets, but his team still lost the game.

He missed both free throws.

I've been busy quilting and Cindy has been busy embroidering Hummels for the quilt we saw in Fairbanks. She is still working on figuring out her new embroidery program, but has got the hang of how to do some of it.

Christmas Displays December 12, 201

It was not quite so cold today, but didn't make freezing like was predicted. It is still cold at night.

We decided to go to Salt Lake City so we could go to Trader Joe's to buy a few things to take with us on our trip to Arizona next month. We like the one in Las Vegas, but thought it might be a little hard to get into with the fiver, so Salt Lake without the trailer was a better choice. We did buy a few things that we found to take with us.





We were right next door to a display, decorating store (Modern Display) so decided to go see all their Christmas decorations. They have a lot of trees decorated for Christmas. They also have a lot of undecorated trees, including a Charlie Brown tree.

This reminded me of the tree Charlie Brown got for Christmas.

They also have a lot of  Department 56 displays, Including one of Whoville complete with the Grinch. There was a Peanuts display, along with several alpine towns.

Nice, but  for $5500.00 we'll have to wait!

We always have liked Lladro figurines, although we don't have any. One set with a lot of small flowers was selling for $5500.00, so you can see why we don't own any.













Christmas is only a little less than 2 weeks away, and then we can get serious about our trip to Arizona.

I spent most of yesterday on the quilting machine. Cindy is having me do a quilt with 7 different rose patterns on it. I think it is turning out nice, but will wait to post pictures when I'm through.

Another Cold Day December 10, 2013

Today had a little wind, which made the 18 degree temperature feel a lot colder than it was. It is supposed to warm up to freezing by Thursday. After the last few days that will feel like a heat wave. We are both looking forward to going south, but that will have to wait a while longer.

I was invited to a breakfast at one of my old wholesalers, so I took them up on it. It was nice to visit with some of the people I used to deal with all the time. Of course they wanted to know how I liked retirement, and I had to tell them I didn't miss working at all. (It seems like I stay busy enough without going to a job.)

We put Cindy on the incline board a couple of times today, and she seems to get some temporary relief for a while. We have been told it takes a while to get more permanent results, so we will keep trying.

Today is the 19th aniversary of when Cindy and I met on a blind date. She could hardly believe it has been that long, but it has. For me, at least, it has been a good 19 years. I think she feels the same most of the time.

Letter from Santa December 8, 2013

Devon and Sissy (Alyssia) got a letter from Santa Claus at North Pole, Alaska. They were quite excited to get it. The letter encouraged them to stay on the good list. I hope they do.

You can see how much Devon likes his Jazz shirt. He wears it a lot.

Yesterday Devon got to play his first basketball game in the Jr. Jazz program. He and his team played hard, but still lost by 6 points. He was very disappointed, but the coach told him it was good to see him try until the end. He also said he was seeing improvement in all the boys.

Cindy got her new laptop. It is a Dell with solid state drive. I think she will like it better than her old one, which didn't have enough hard-drive. It also is supposed to be a lot faster.

Tomorrow I go to see my Doctor about the colonoscopy. I'm sure he will tell me I have to go through it again in three years, since they found polyps. I can only hope he doesn't send me to the vampires, but he usually does. I guess I shouldn't complain, because he's only trying to make sure I stay healthy. I probably will also get a flu shot since I haven't had one this year.

Cindy has been using the recline board, which seems to give her back some relief, even if it's only for a couple of hours. A friend that has one says he must use it quite often to see lasting results.

Festival of Trees Continued December 7, 2013

This morning we woke up to a snow storm. It snowed most of the day and with the wind, it was very cold outside. We probably got 4 inches of powdery snow before it finally quit.

More about the Festival of Trees.

Each tree has a story about what it meant to the ones doing the decorating. Many had pictures of loved ones that had pass on, and from all the sold signs, the Childrens Hospital got good support from the community and various businesses.

The following is from the web site for the foundation:

"Every penny raised helps children at Primary Children’s Hospital. HISTORY: For 43 years, the Festival of Trees has been a “Gift of Love” to children. The Festival is organized by a volunteer board of 85 women who enlist time and talents from thousands of individuals, organizations, businesses, and families throughout Utah and beyond.  Over $33 million has been raised for children at Primary Children’s Hospital through the Festival since 1971, with $1,871,546.91 raised last year. Over 700 Christmas Trees: Beautiful, whimsical, contemporary, and traditional! Trees are decorated and donated by church groups, families, individuals, businesses, civic organizations, and clubs. Playhouse Plaza: Child-sized dream houses, dollhouses, rocking horses, children's furniture, and other unique items. This tells what ingredients went into making the gingerbread house. The kids seemed to like Despicable Me gingerbread house. You can see the picture of their departed child. This tells the story of the above tree and about their own lost boy. We liked the Mickey playhouse with the Mickey Mouse shingles. Winnie the Pooh tree.

Festival of Trees December 6, 2013

Today was awfully cold with a little bit of wind, which of course made it feel that much colder. The same is predicted for the next few days.


Today we went to the festival of trees. It is a fund raiser for the Primary Childrens Hospital held each December. It seems to have a lot of support, because most of the trees, wreathes, and table decorations were marked sold. There were also a lot of people there that pay admission to see everything.

What we didn't know about it, was there was also a lot of quilts on display that had been donated.

We enjoyed seeing everything and spent about 3 hours looking at everything.

Today I am going to show some of the quilts we got to see. Tomorrow I will show some of the trees and other decorations at the show.

Most things held at the Expo Center only take up part of the building, but this one took the whole building, which is quite large.
               

Most of the quilts had a Christmas theme, but not all. The all did look to be well made and the quilting was very nice.

I liked this kids quilt. My grandson would like the dinosaurs.

I liked the holly quilt pattern.

Cindy liked the star piecing.

This Christmas tree Quilt was very nice.

Probably not Christmas, but I liked the quilt and the quilting.

 Both of these quilts are well made. I especially like the top one of the two.
