Way Too Hot

Way Too Hot
Las Vegas, Nevada               84 Low 54

Yesterday we drove from Surprise to Las Vegas. I had called the Duck Creek RV Park earlier and was told they didn't have any spaces, but I decided to call again when we got close to see if they had any spaces available and was told they did, so that’s where we landed.

We were planning on only staying here one night, but high winds were predicted for all day today and part of tomorrow, so we will stay here until Thursday morning before continuing toward Salt Lake.

When we got here it was in the nineties, way hotter than we like, but better than the snow that is supposed to come down tonight and tomorrow through Utah. We had to have one of the AC’s on all night. It turned off part of the night and then came back on. Tonight it has cooled off nicely.

Last night we met Tammy and Stephanie and their kids at the Bellagio Hotel to look at the Chihuly glass and their gardens. The lobby is very well decorated. The indoor garden and lobby have lots of flower blossom arraignments. Someone told us that all the glass cost the Hotel millions of dollars.

There are over 2000 of these hand blown "pedals".

We then went outside and watched the light and water show in the large pool in front of the Hotel. We stayed for 3 shows and they were all different.

Stephanie, Teesa, Taidan, Ray.
Today we went to one quilt store and looked at all the quilts hanging on the walls. I talked to the owner for a little while and he told me there are only two quilt stores left in all of Las Vegas and the surrounding area. Cindy says it is because it is so warm here than no one needs quilts on their beds.

I’m not sure what we will do tomorrow, other than watch the wind blow.

Thanks for visiting.

Busy Weekend

Surprise, Arizona            High 84 Low 59

Saturday morning I walked to the office. In the pond the turtles were sunning themselves. There also was a mother duck with 9 babies. I thought they were cute. When they saw me they swam to the middle of the pond to get as far from me as possible.

Last night we went to Cindy’s oldest son Scot’s wedding. He and Dan have been together for 10 years. Arizona law changed and they finally could get married. Most of Cindy’s family was there. During The ceremony, they both had tears of joy in their eyes. They were both happy to be able to make it legal.

Afterward they had a catered meal for all the guests.

Cindy’s mother and sister drove their motor home down from Utah.

Tomorrow we start home. We plan on stopping in Las Vegas tomorrow night and part way home somewhere in Utah the next day. We plan on getting back to Riverton sometime Wednesday, unless the predicted snow for Salt Lake is bad enough that we might take another day. Our accountant had filled a tax extension, so we really aren't in a big hurry to get back.

Warm Friday

Surprise, Arizona              High 84 Low 57

Today was another warm day.

This morning we went to a few yard sales. Cindy found some necklaces for a price she was willing to pay. That was all we bought.

After we came back, we went to the sewing room and laid out the Shadow Box quilt we started. We got all the vertical rows put together and then found out we were short a little of the sashing fabric. I had to go back to Bob’s and buy another half yard of the light batik we were short.

Cindy got a few pictures of the Park including a picture of the pond in front of the office. There were turtles sunning themselves and ducks also. This Park is huge with about 1200 sites, with most of them park models.

We went swimming yesterday and counting us there were only 4 people in the pool. A lady that was in the pool told us it was a big change from two weeks ago. She told us that on some days there were so many people in the pool, that you could hardly find a place to stand. Most of the activities have been suspended for the summer.
One of the ladies from the Park was working on an applique floral quilt.
They also told us that during the winter the sewing room has a lot of women working on different projects. Now we have only had 3 or 4 besides us. It’s so warm that a lot of people have gone north for the summer.

Tomorrow evening we go to the wedding. We will just rest Sunday and head toward home on Monday.

Thanks for visiting.

We Are in Surprise

Surprise, Arizona               High 82 Low 52

Monday morning we left North Ranch and drove to The Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise. It was an hour drive. It is the wrong way to go home, but we have a wedding to attend on Saturday afternoon and evening. If we had stayed at North Ranch we would have had an hour and a half drive to the wedding. As it is now we still have a half hour drive each way, but we didn't want to drive back to Congress Saturday night.

This Park is huge. We spent some time checking it out and they seem to have lots of different craft areas. We went into the sewing room and the lady we talked to told us that about half the people that are here in the winter have left to go home. We were parked next to a couple from Alberta and they left this morning. The quilter told us that there are still a lot of people here all year. The Park looks to be mostly Park models with a few RV sites here and there. Where we are there are probably 20 RV sites. We are at the far corner of the Park.

I have taken Penny to the dog park yesterday and today and she seemed to have fun running with all the dogs. It is a very nice dog park.

Today we went to the sewing room and worked on some of Cindy’s quilts. All the ladies there were friendly. One of them was working on a quilt called Shadowbox, which we both liked.

They told us about a store near by that was a close out store that had fabric. The quilt is made from batiks and they had a good assortment. The prices weren't too bad but with a membership at this Park we got another 15% off which made the batiks $7.40 per yard. We got enough to make the quilt in king size.

We are going to the sewing room again tomorrow.

Thanks for visiting.

Last Day at North Ranch

Last Day at North Ranch
Congress, Arizona                 High 72 Low 50

The last 2 weeks went by quickly. Cindy had a lot of fun at bead week. I even managed to stay fairly busy.

Yesterday we drove to the end of Ghost Town Road in Congress and went for a ways on the dirt road just to see what was there. After we went to the Library to use their internet, but it was so slow that we soon gave up.

Today was our last day here. The Park put on an Easter dinner in the activity center. We had signed up earlier in the week by table and what we would bring. Our table had fancy gold eating utensils. The Park furnished the ham (for a nominal price).Cindy said that this was the first Easter she can remember not being with kids or grand kids. It turned out to be a good meal and we got to visit with the other couples for a while.

Cindy got some pictures of the finished horse that the woodcarvers here repaired.

This evening we got some more pictures of the different plants in bloom. The white cactus flowers are all gone, but there are still a lot of different blooms.

I think these look like small bananas.
There were just enough clouds to make another beautiful sunset. It was a nice finish to a nice day.

Tomorrow we leave for an RV Park in Surprise where we will spend a week before heading home.

Thanks for visiting.

End of Bead Week and Yappy Hour

Congress, Arizona             High 84 Low 59

Today was the last day of bead week. Cindy was busy and seemed to have a lot of fun. She finished 2 bracelets and got started on 2 others. She went for a walk tonight and when she got back the bracelet she was wearing was gone. It must have slipped off her hand, but she wasn't able to find it.
This is one of the bracelets she didn't get finished.

This is the one she finished that she later lost. ps: She found it on the floor.
Last night she took a class on making a necklace and I helped her. It took a while, but we were able to finish it before we had to leave the activity center.
Here I am helping Cindy string beads.

This is the necklace we finished.
This afternoon we took Penny to the dog park for yappy hour. At one time there were probably 10 dogs running around playing with each other. Whenever a new dog came to the park a lot of the dogs barked in greeting. All the owners sit around and gab for about an hour.

These dogs are barking at a new comer.

Penny playing with a ball.
We had a dinner tonight with the beaders. We had lots of time to visit with the other people at our table.

This evening there was another beautiful sunset.

On the other side of the valley there was a bright full moon.
We will just kind of hang out for 2 days and then we are headed to an RV Park in Surprise for a week.

Thanks for visiting.
