Pioneer Homes, Heritage Fair, Quilt Race

Last evening we went to tour 4 Pioneer Homes as part of the Quilt Walk. The first one we went to had the exterior authentic but had been modernized inside. What used to be an old garage had been turned into a Bed and Breakfast with an automotive motif. The bed was the bed of an old Chev pickup. There was a sink on a transmission case and the bathroom had a toolbox as the base for a sink.

The other three were left pretty much as they were originally and we liked them a lot better.

Cindy especially liked the stained glass. 

This is an old magnifying glass that was used to read by someone without glasses. 

We went into town expecting to see a parade, but no one knew the parade route and we never found any sign of a parade where their website said it would be. 

We stayed to see the Heritage Fair. They showed how corn was ground with a large rock and a small rock. There were examples of hand quilting which all the kids tried. There also was example of cording wool. Two girls were making butter using cream, a pint jar, and a marble to agitate it.

There was supposed to be a Quilt Race with the parade but it was held with the Heritage Fair. It really was a re-enactment of the Quilt Walk, There were two teams each with seven persons. the object was to walk on the quilt and the back person brought his quilt to the front with out stepping off the row of quilts. The first team to the sidewalk won. It was fun for all the participants and spectators.

We also went to a Quilt Trunk Show so more quilt photos.
