Quilt Show

Riverton, Utah        High 94 Low 69

It has been very hot here for the last while.

Cindy's tomatoes are finally starting to get ripe, along with lots of zucchini and cucumbers. She says she like the raised planter boxes, which help a lot with weeds and picking the crops.

Today we went to a quilt show, so I have lots of quilt pictures to post this time and will probably put more of Cindy's pictures next time.

We liked this water wheel, which is in the lobby of the museum where the quilt show was held.

It was hard to pick a favorite, but we both liked this I Spy quilt and the way she made it look like magnifying glasses to enlarge the center of the blocks.

Cindy think the little flowers on the small borders we hand painted on. It was a pretty intricate quilt.

Lots of really nice quilts.

Thanks for visiting.

Cindy's Garden

Riverton, Utah             High 91 Low 69

It has been quite warm here for a while. We did get a little rain one evening, but not enough to do any good. It also has been cloudy a few days with some wind.

Cindy decided she want to harvest grapes this year, and in order to get any, I have to completely enclose the grape arbor with bird net. This involves putting up a pvc fence around the arbor and attaching the net to it. It has been so hot, I can only work on it mornings.

There is a walk-way through here that the plants have completely covered.

The picture above is cantaloupe, the one below is a pepper.  Cindy's plants really like the raised planter boxes (and the good soil we put in them).

Cindy's garden is really doing well. We have had squash, zucchini, green beans and some cherry tomatoes. There are lots of green tomatoes, but only a few ripe ones.

We had a decent apricot crop, but the birds probably got almost half of them, so that is why the net around the grapes.

Thanks for visiting.

A Little Late

Riverton, Utah       High 95 Low 64

This post is a lot past due! The weather has been very hot for the time of year. We usually don't hit 100 until later in July, but had a few days in June when it made it to 100. I guess, summer couldn't wait.

The cherries are all gone, thanks to the birds. I had to pick what we wanted a little before they were really ripe, but I had no choice if we wanted any. We even had three crows, which I don't remember seeing in Utah before, that really scolded us whenever we went in the yard.

Cindy's garden is going crazy. I guess the plants like the new soil and potting mix we put in the raised boxed. So far no ripe tomatoes, unlike Nancy. We have had zucchini and cucumbers. There are lot of tomatoes, but so far they all are green.

The apricots went crazy for size. We had about half the usual amount because of cold weather when the blossoms came out. They are almost finished for the year.

And of course I have been quilting and here are more quilt pictures.

Cindy wanted to have the flag quilt for a picnic quilt using a denim Back and binding, but only if I would sew down the binding, so here I am sewing away. The denim is so heavy, that I broke two needles in the process. Cindy told me she would have been suffering, trying to sew by hand through the back.
