Friday Wasn't My Day!

I went to work and was working on getting an old furnace out, when I pulled on a wire. It had a hook on the end, and caught my finger and tore a big slice on it. Cindy had the day off, so I called her to come and take me to the doctor to get stitches. We went to our normal place, which our insurance takes, and were informed that their instacare did not start until 4:30, so she suggested we go to the emergency room at the hospital. Never again will I go in the emergency room willingly.

The sign in the waiting room said a 21 minute wait. What they didn't tell you, was that the 21 minute wait was only until you get to go in for the real wait. Two hours later the doctor finally stitched up my finger. He said he would have the nurse put on the dressing, and we could be on our way.
An hour later we finally walked out the door. Total time in the emergency room: 3 hours and 20 minutes. Time spent sewing up my finger: 7 minutes counting the shot to deaden my finger.

I really need to retire. The last several months have been hard on an old guy. I fell and hurt my shoulder about a month ago. Two weeks ago I slipped on a slick membrane roof and landed flat on my back. Fortunately I wasn't hurt that time. And after I cut my finger yesterday, a sheatmetal elbow fell out of one of the heat runs and took a nick out of my other hand. I should have been home running my quilting machine.

A few years ago, during the recession, things were so slow that I was sitting home watching so much TV, that Cindy told me I need to get a hobby or I was going to sit there and die in that chair. Little did she know I would take up part of her hobby, making quilts. She does the embroidery work and piecing, I help her do cutting and run the long arm machine.  Here are some pictures of our work. I think we make a good team.

I can hardly wait to start traveling. We are taking our sewing machines with us, and Cindy has already cut out material for some more quilts.  She only has 11 more days to work (but who's counting), and I won't be far behind. As we said in our first blog, we plan on leaving on about the 9th of January toward Quartzsite.

Almost On Our Way

Cindy finally gave her notice at work that she will be retiring on December 28. 2012. I will be   selling my heating and air conditioning business and we will start traveling on about January 9th. I might add that Cindy is extremely nervous about retiring, but I think we will be OK. Our daughter moved into our home, so we will be "most timers".  Our first planned trip is to Quartzsite, AZ to boondock with the Boomers through the big RV tent show.  After that we want to travel to Phoenix to visit our two sons that live there.

While there we hope to visit some of the bloggers we follow.  We want to visit Yuma for a little while and hope to stay at the Escapees Park there.  We would also like to stay at the North Ranch Park in Congress

Our next big trip will be leaving Utah about the middle of May and go trough Canada and Alaska. We hope to stay in Alaska until it gets too cold, and then return to spend some time on the Oregon coast.
I forgot to mention that we live in Riverton, Utah (a small city in the southwest part of Salt Lake Valley). We had to promise our daughter we would be back home for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This is my first attempt at blogging, so please forgive the crude look. I hope to get better at it and will try to make it look a little better. We hope to get more serious about blogging when we actually start traveling.
