North Pole, Alaska Sunday, June 2, 2013
This morning we went to church. The small wards and branches
are always fun to go to. We had to drive 10 miles from where we parked to get
to the church building in Salcha.
We left after lunch and drove to North Pole. The visitor
center had been move from the Right side of the highway to the left. The only
problem was they hadn't bothered to change the sign. We ended up getting lost
on a narrow road. I finally stopped at a cafe/bar to ask directions. The
visitor center was now located by Santa Claus House in the old office of the RV
Park, which is now closed permanently. We visited Santa Claus House and they
have everything you can imagine about Christmas, except----Santa. It seems he has Sunday and Monday off, so we are going to
have to go back on Tuesday. Cindy promised the grand kids she would get a
picture of her with Santa, and to tell Santa hi.
There is a Safeway by Santa Claus House, that we had read
where we could boondock for free. Sure enough, there is a sign on a large
gravel lot that says Free RV Parking, 5 day Limit. I’m not sure we will be here
5 days, but at least 2. It is located between the Car Wash and the Hardware
Store by Safeway.
We drove 20 miles today, but we will make up for it
tomorrow.
Kind of warm. |
