Ribs

Wellton, Arizona                   High 66 Low 50

Sorry, I didn't get any pictures.

Yesterday we drove to the Foothills to go to some Yard sales. Cindy found a Coldwater Creek jacket for $4.00. It looked almost new. She felt good about the price. She also got a large quilt block book for one dollar.

Our friends, Eddie and Barbara, that were in this RV Park bought a trailer in the foothills. He told me it was a fixer-upper. They moved out of this Park yesterday, and since we were in the area, we stopped in to see them. When I saw what needed fixing, I told him I had envisioned a lot more work than it needs. A few gallons of paint and a few scuffs on the wall are all I could see. beside all that, it is completely furnished. He says they paid less for the house than a bare lot sells for, and they both feel good about it.

He wanted me to check his heating and air conditioner, both of which worked well. I told him he could spend a lot of money and get the latest and greatest, but that I personally would run it like it was until they died and then think about upgrading. The furnace filter looked like it had been a long time since it was cleaned, and that he should clean it or get a new one.

After we left them, we went to Fry's to get some bread. Cindy found that they had a lot of things on sale for Super Bowl. Among the sale items were pork ribs that normally were $7.99 a pound marked down to $2.95 a pound. She got two packages.

She cooked them for dinner tonight with lots of barbecue sauce on them. They were a good as any I have ever had. Penny really enjoys the bone we gave her.

We are just kind of chilling out in this Park for the next 3 weeks. We don't have much on the agenda.

Thanks for visiting.

Minnie Blogger Fest

Wellton, Arizona                   High 70 Low 55

We have had nice weather for the last two days. Rain is supposed to be coming tomorrow.

We went to a jam session at the clubhouse. The musicians and singers were very good. There hasn't been much else going on at the RV Park for the last few days, at least not for us.

We went to Pilot Knob this afternoon to meet Kevin and Ruth. We have emailed several times, but have never met them before, as we missed the Blogger Fest in Quartzsite. As it turned out, there were also two other couples there, who also blog. Kevin and Evelyn Breutzmann of RV Khronicles of Kevelyn were there along with Janos and Maggie of Lenses and Wheels. I didn’t get Janos’ last name but he is an occasional writer for RV Times and is also a professional photographer.

This picture has all eight of us. Cindy sitting left, Ruth sitting right. Ray behind Cindy, Evelyn, Kevin B., Janos, Maggie, And Kevin Read with his hand on Ruth's shoulder.

We spent about two hours visiting and getting to know the other couples. I guess our Minnie Blogger Fest lasted about as long as the one in Quartzsite. We had a good time with the other couples and we were glad we got to meet them. For me at least, it is always good to meet bloggers so I can better put faces to their blogs.

We’re not sure what we are doing for the rest of the week.

Thanks for visiting.

Does Anyone Need Any Paper Shredded?

Wellton, Arizona                      High 72 Low 52

Yesterday it rained most of the day and was kind of chilly. Today the sun finally came out and it got warm and nice.

We had gone to the clubhouse yesterday and when we got back we found that Penny had found some toilet paper and had shredded it into very small pieces. She had made quite a mess and when I tried to clean it up, she kept attacking the broom. She does know how to shred paper and seems to like doing it.
Notice the piece of incriminating evidence by her mouth.

This morning we went to a quilter group get together at the clubhouse. We had barely got started when we found out there was a quilt show at the Park a little way down the road. Everyone else went to see it and we stayed behind until the others got back. The ladies here have some nice quilts and Cindy got some pictures of them.

The quilt show wasn't very big, but there were some nice quilts and other crafts there. Cindy got some more pictures at the show.

Sandi Dixon called me wondering if we still wanted to get together this afternoon, and I told her sure. She then asked if some other bloggers could come along, and again I told her sure. I always enjoy meeting fellow bloggers.

We met in Yuma at 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. The people she brought are Joe and Betty Griffis of Joe and Betty's Adventures. We spent a little over two hours visiting and getting to know each other. As it turned out, they are and were at Pilot Knob RV Park when we were there.
From the left, Betty, Sandi, Cindy Ray, Joe, and Jim.
And as usual, it was nice to see Jim and Sandi again. They head back to Apache Junction day after tomorrow.

We will be at this RV Park until the 25th of February when we leave to go to the Good Sam Rally at Phoenix.

Thanks for visiting.

Tooth Repairs

Wellton, Arizona                      High 73 Low 54

Thusday when we both went to the dentist in Algodones, we both got our teeth cleaned. Cindy also had two small cavities repaired. The dentist found a cavity beneath one of my crowns and some decay above another.

Friday I had an appointment to have the repair work done to the two teeth. The dentist had another dentist that specializes in root canals come in and do the root canal one the bad tooth. It seemed like quite a while drilling and he finally got through.

The dentist then had to take the other crown off to get at the decay. He also drilled what seemed like a long time. After he took the impressions for the new crowns, he found two more small cavities on two other teeth. He asked me if I wanted him to do the repair then, and I told him I would rather wait until the next day to fix them.

Cindy meanwhile had gone to the hair salon called Juanita's and had her hair cut, shampooed, and styled for the whopping amount of $8.00. This was way less than at home for the same thing and they did a very good job.

She also had another shrimp taco because she knew I wouldn't be able to eat and it was noon.

I would have liked to go to the blogger fest at Quartzsite, but my mouth wasn't feeling the best and I didn't think I would have enjoyed it as much as I would have liked.

So instead I went back to the dentist alone Saturday about mid-morning and got the crowns put on. He also repaired the two cavities. I got through at about 1:00 and he told me not to eat anything for a least an hour. My mouth was pretty sore, but I wanted some more shrimp tacos, so I just wandered around town for an hour. The total bill for cleaning, two crowns, one root canal, and two cavities came to $770.00. I don't know if that is a good deal, but it seems last time I had one crown it was more than I paid for all the work.

We had eaten at the little orange colored cafe before, but I didn't remember how good the shrimp tacos were. Not only did they have more shrimp than the stand in the alley, but the also gave you chips and salsa, and a big container of condiments, and they also had live music going on while you ate. All this and a lower price than the other stand.

Her are some of the sight around Algodones. The flutes are from a craft show at Pilot Knob RV Park yesterday.

Again, I wish I could have gone to the Blogger fest, But I hope they do it next year.

We are currently staying at the Pioneer RV Park in Wellton, where we will be staying for a while.

Thanks for visiting.

Went to Algodones

Winterhaven, California                                  High 73 Low 45

Yesterday, after a fairly short drive, we arrived at the Pilot Knob RV Park. We will be here for 4 nights. We picked this Park for 2 reasons. First, because it is so close to Algodones, second, because it is a Coast to Coast Park and we get to stay free here.

Yesterday I went into Yuma to fill the truck with diesel. It was $2.339 per gallon. This is the least I remember paying.

Today we went to Algodones for teeth cleaning, and our meds. The cleaning went OK, but the dentist found some cavities under a couple of crowns. One was so bad that he asked me if it hurt. I asked him if he thought it should and he said it was bad enough that he would have thought so. He showed me where a piece of the tooth was actually broken and the crown was the only thing holding the piece in. This tooth will need to have a root canal. We decided we were there so long today that I would come back tomorrow to have the preliminary work done and the two new crowns installed Saturday.

Cindy had two small cavities on the same tooth and got them taken care of.

We also went to get new glasses. We both decided on two pairs. They could have had them today, but we told them we would pick them up tomorrow.

There are booths selling anything imaginable everywhere, but we resisted.
After all of this, we were hungry and since we were next door to the shrimp taco stand, decided to have shrimp tacos for lunch. They were as good as we remembered.

Tomorrow while I get my teeth ground on, Cindy is going to go to a Hair Salon she found out about, that do reasonably priced haircuts complete with shampoo and styling. She found out about it at Boomerville and the other ladies seemed to be satisfied.

On the way out, there was a long line waiting for customs, but it moved fairly fast.

Thanks for visiting.

Chili Cook-Off

Quartzsite, Arizona                  High 73 Low 45

Yesterday we had a Chili cook-off at Boomerville. One thing about this place, if you go hungry it’s your own fault.

There were 13 entries with chili and all the side dishes you could want. The voting was by the whole group, with each person getting 3 votes. As always, there was way too much to eat. Other people must have liked the same one I did, because it got the most votes.

There are different seminars throughout the day and into the evening. Last night we watched a slide presentation on the balloon fest at Albuquerque. It is almost two week with the Boomers helping various balloon crews. There are lots of balloons and is very colorful. There are also pot lucks dinners and happy hours. It sounds like another Boomerville. It is held the end of September and the first part of October.

Cindy got a picture of the activity board for today and it looks very full.
We also had another pancake breakfast for CARE. This time there was bacon. It was very good again.
I ended up going to the I phone talk and the electrical and solar talk. Cindy went to a polymer clay demonstration.

We had another happy hour and while there we had a blimp go over taking pictures. There was also a BLM ranger at happy hour that talked to us about some of the rumors concerning changes to road stoppages, fees, and so on. Mostly things are going to stay the same, which was good news.
This blimp was huge, although the picture doesn't look like it.
This evening there was another spectacular sunset and Cindy got lots of pictures.

Penny had to see what was going on.
We leave tomorrow for Yuma (actually Pilot Knob in California) to get dental work, glasses and meds in Algodones.

Thanks for visiting.
