We Have Half a Dog

Front Royal, Virginia High 79 Low 57

Today was warm and sunny, a very nice day.

We went to Winchester today. Cindy wanted a haircut.

While I was waiting, I got a few pictures of the fall colors. We are seeing more and more signs of the beautiful fall leaves.

Last night when we were washing Penny, we found a lot of mats in her hair. We haven’t been a diligent brushing and combing her as we should have been. We are new puppy parents and didn't know any better.

When I tried to comb the mats out it pulled her hair so much that she cried about it. We had bought a puppy kit that gave us some money off a pet grooming and decided to take her to the Petsmart in Winchester and see if they could do anything with her hair. It was so bad that they told us the only thing they could do was give her a haircut.

She didn't like it at all and really shivered the whole time. Now she looks like they traded us dogs and this one is only about half as big as the other one. We are hoping her pretty coat grows back and we will take better care of her hair.

She is the same dog and has the same temperament, but she sure is hanging close to Cindy and I. It was a very traumatic experience for her. She looked cute in her pink bow, but she hated it. It didn't take her long to take it out.

Thanks for visiting.

  2. Aw - poor puppy. Having newbies for parents is always hard on babies -lol. But she does look cute now. Now you get to spend money getting her a sweater or two so she doesn't get cold. Without the insulation from her fur, she will get chilled very quickly. Hope that the groomer gave you some grooming tips and some idea of the proper brushes to use. I have 1 dog who mats very quickly and I have learned she needs a quick brushing every day. I've also found that Johnson&Johnson No More Tangles works great when trying to work mats out - much cheaper than the expensive doggie stuff and just as good if not better. She is a cutie and lucky to have you guys as parents -- and even full grown will be the perfect size for full-timing!

    1. Yes, being new parents is hard, especially if you don't know what you are doing. We will have to get the no more tangles.

  3. She's adorable Ray and Cindy--Emmi doesn't like the groomer either so I do her myself! Congratulations on your new family member!

  4. Oh, I forgot, get some good conditioner for Penny's fur, Emmi has very, very fine hair which has a tendency to mat, using the conditioner after the shampoo really helps. I buy it at Petsmart.

  5. Awww such a cutie pie!! My Cooper has been shaved a couple of times, and he always shivers ... he hates it!! I keep a small wire brush by my chair and almost every night give him the once over. At first he didn't like it so much, but now loves to have his back scratched!! He's also tender skinned, so I'm careful about those snarls!! It will grow back beautifully!!

  6. We have low maintenance dogs which works for me. Your baby needs to be brushed every day. But she's still so cute even without any fur.

  7. I guess I didn't know either. Good thing we don't have a dog.
