Day on the Hudson

Accord, New York High 82 Low 63

It was a lot warmer today. Thanks to Lynn, a reader that lives in Kinston, we decided to take the Cruise on the Hudson River from the Kingston water front. We went from the Rondout Creek pier to the Hudson River. We went downstream for almost an hour, seeing many of the old mansions and a large Catholic School along the River. We then turned around and cruised up the other bank, getting a little different view of the mansions along the River.

There were so many mansions that I have no idea which is which. We also got to see two old lighthouses, the second of which, they told us had been abandoned for many years, and a group of volunteers had restored. The date on it was 1871. I do remember the narrator saying it was to warn ships away from the very shallow water by the shore at that point of the Hudson River.

An ocean going cargo ship on the Hudson River.

This is the library for the mansion in the next picture!

Boat house for the last mansion.

This was pretty distinctive.
This and the picture below are the Catholic Academy.

Small hint of fall.

The only buildings I can name for sure in the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club building because of its distinctive PYC on the building, and the large School building.

One of the mansions had what looked like a mansion overlooking the water, but the narrator said it was only the library for the very large mansion, just down river from it.

It was a relaxing way to spend an afternoon, and I didn’t even have a hint of sea-sickness.

Thanks again, Lynn, for the suggestion which I’m sure we would have missed otherwise.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. Hi - So very glad you went! I will try to identify each of the photos by putting comments in the comment section for each photo -- will do it on Friday when I have time. We're heading over the Catskills to Cooperstown tomorrow to see an art exhibit. Enjoy the rest of your time here in the Hudson Valley. Lynn - Kingston NY

  2. Wow, I love that cruise. Thanks to Lynn and you for recommending it. The boat tour from Kingston, NY is now on our bucket list!

Gorgeous photos. Hard to believe one of the "mansions" was only a library for a bigger mansion!
