Meeting Bloggers and Quilt Shops

Benson, Arizona High 70 Low 43

It was another nice day here. I know this report is getting kind of old, but it sure beats the cold weather in the north eastern part of the US.

Yesterday we went to a Quilt store in Sierra Vista. I thought the name was interesting: The Squirrel’s Nest.

We woke up this morning to a beautiful sunrise. It was a little cloudy first thing and made for a nice picture. And just like a sunset, it didn't take long for it to be gone.

We went to Tucson to see the quilt shops there. We also had a meeting scheduled with bloggers we hadn't met before.

Cindy bought this pattern to use up scraps.

Very nice Quilt.

This is one of the quilts Cindy wants to make. It has lots of embroidery appliqued on with lots of interesting quilting.

Pam (with the sun glasses) Randy, and Cindy.
We went to two of the shops first, and then went to meet bloggers Randy and Pam Warner, who are staying in Tucson. We had tried to get together in Yuma, but I waited too long, and since they were in Tucson, we finally agreed upon a time to get together. We got there first, and saw them drive up. We spent about an hour getting acquainted and having lunch. We had a good time meeting them, and hope we can get together another time down the road.

After lunch we went to the other 3 quilt stores in Tucson, and Cindy found at least two quilts she would like to make. This picture is of the owner of the shop we were in showing me some of his quilting on a larger version of the machine I have.

This is a Charity quilt he is doing, which is the second quilt Cindy wants to make.
I have put some pictures of some of the quilts in the different shops.
Another nice quilt.

I liked this sign on one of the stores.

Yes, Sandi, we bought more fabric and I am now looking for a platform with a box I can lock up to go on the back of the fiver. Not really about the box and platform, but we did get more material. Any quilter knows you can never have too much fabric or too large a stash, after all Cindy is a STABLE quilter.
(Stash Total Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy.)

We had a good time meeting the Warner’s and visiting the quilt shops, after all with the same last name Randy and I have to be related somewhere in the past.

Thanks for visiting.

Bisbee

Benson, Arizona High 68 Low 45

Today was partly cloudy this morning with the sun coming out by noon.

We drove to Bisbee today to see the old historic buildings. We were not disappointed. We stopped at the Visitor Center, which also was the place for the Queen Mine tour. We got some literature on the town, and drove to the Museum on Main Street.

We then walked up Main Street and looked at lots of old buildings. We walked through one of the many old buildings, which now is an antique shop. I guess we start to feel our age, when some of our glasses at home are for sale in an antique store. It was still interesting.

We went into some kind of mall and asked where to find the old high school. A customer in the coffee shop was kind enough to give me directions.

Behind the Museum where we were parked are an old hotel and an old church. We decided to go up some of the stairs next to the Museum and see the hotel and church.

Ceiling of the Hotel.

  • Part of Bisbee's 1000 steps.
Inside the hotel, there are lots of displays and pictures of Bisbee from the early 1900s. One picture said that Bisbee in 1910 had a population of 20,000. By 1950, the population was down to 9000. Now instead of mining, the economy seems to be tourist oriented. The Copper Queen Hotel was built in 1902 to host visiting mining executives. It has been host to Teddy Roosevelt and John Wayne and numerous ghosts.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to go inside the Church, but the paper about it says it has a working pipe organ wit 16 foot pipes. It also has what probably from inside is some nice stained glass.

We went back and got our truck, and drove to the old High School. It sits on a steep hill, and one of the things we read about it said that it was 4 stories high and had a street entrance from each level. Because of this it is listed in the Guiness book of World Records. We checked it out, and indeed there were street level entrances from each floor. It now houses the County offices in Bisbee. We went inside, but there really wasn't anything special inside.

We came back by way of Sierra Vista and had lunch. On our way there we saw fresh snow on some of the mountains (the dreaded four letter word). After that we came home and went to pot luck at the RV Park.

Thanks for visiting.

Sky on Fire

Benson, Arizona High 63 Low 41

It rained a gentle rain a lot of the night. We were able to hear it on our roof, when we went to bed, and a few times during the night.

Today it was cool all day. When we woke up today the sun was shining. It was partly cloudy all day, but no more rain. The prediction is for good weather for the next few days, with it warming up all week.

We went for a walk around the Park and looked at all the scenery. We saw some rabbits, but weren't able to get any pictures. We got some nice pictures of the RV Park with the hills in the background.

This evening we looked out and saw a beautiful sunset, and were able to get some pictures of what looks like the sky on fire. It is the first nice sunset we have had for more than a week. Then just as quickly as it appeared, the beautiful sunset disappeared.

All I have to post tonight are the pictures of the Park and the sunset.

Thanks for visiting.

Great Breakfast and Yard Sales

Benson, Arizona High 57 Low 41

This morning started out partly cloudy and it started to rain a little at about 1:00. The day has been kind of dreary, but nowhere near the rain that was predicted. It also was warm to us this morning, but cooled off a lot when it started to rain.

Cindy decided to make banana pancakes for breakfast this morning. She puts coconut flakes in the batter, then puts sliced bananas on top. Then to make them even better, she sprinkles chopped macadamia nuts all over. It sure makes a good meal.

After breakfast we went to a few yard sales around town. We didn't find anything to buy until we went to a yard and craft sale at a very nice RV Park on the opposite end of town from where we are.

There was a wood carving, that the man showing it, said his wife had carved. He told us she has only been carving for a year. Some people are very talented. She even won first place in a carving show. These are all of the same piece, just different views.

One of the yard sales had a bead storage box that Cindy thought would be perfect for her new hobby. The price he was asking was reasonable, so we took it home.

Cindy put a lot of her beads and fittings into it, and filled up a lot of it.

We spent the rest of the afternoon working on her quilting projects, her sewing and me cutting for her.

When I came down to the clubhouse to post, It started to rain a lot more. If we were home at this time of year, I would have  thought the clouds looked like snow.

That's about it for the day. Thanks for visiting.
